Forget Solar and Wind, Eco Fashion Brand harnesses the power of Google Maps

After Google released their new Climate Change Layers for Google earth, showing the impact of climate change on sea levels, weather patterns and even areas of deforestation an Eco-fashion brand have developed their own version.

The eco fashion brand in question, Rapanui, was founded by brothers Mart and Rob Drake-Knight in 2008 and has established itself as an innovator in customer communication. Now they are utilising Google maps to show customers exactly how their products go from seed to shelf, the idea is to inform people as to exactly where and how every product is made so that consumers can make informed choices about the products that they buy.

“It’s not that people don’t care about child labour, pesticides or the environment, it’s just that they don’t know. Our new tool will help our customers to find out quickly and easily where their clothing comes from” Said Rapanui co-founder Rob Drake Knight

The Google maps traceability tool is combined with a Wikipedia style resource that contains all the information you would ever need to know about their eco-fashion collection - from the science of mixing inks and dyes to the environmental impact of washing temperatures and everything in-between. This massive resource is designed to make every detail easily accessible by visitors.

“If we can inform and educate people as to where clothing comes from and how it is made they can make informed decisions as shoppers. As a brand, if we can mix eco with trend and inspire people to think about the environment in wider lifestyle choices, we will have done our job” said Mart Drake-Knight.
