Eco Fashion with a Passion for Fitness

The fitness fanatic owners of a leading eco-fashion brand have used their specialisation in organic textiles to create some amazing work out gear that is lighter, more breathable, and more eco-friendly than typical oil-based synthetic tops.

Rapanui make clothing from organic natural fabrics in a Fair wear Foundation audited, wind powered factory. Shoppers can find out where clothes come from and how they are made using interactive maps on the Rapanui website. The brand wants to promote the benefits of natural fabrics in sport. These natural fabrics have some impressive qualities.

“The great thing about using eco-fabrics in sportswear is that often they are softer, more breathable, and stretchier than their synthetic counterparts. Our bamboo tops are hypoallergenic and antibacterial too, so they’re really comfortable, no chaffing.” Said Martin Drake-Knight, designer. “It’s these properties inside organic fabrics that makes our clothing so perfect for any kind of sport where you’re active and building up a sweat.”

Their range of bamboo and organic cotton t shirts, ethical underwear and bamboo socks are highly absorbent and wick water away from the body 3 to 4 times faster than many synthetic fabrics, the fitness mad directors have been putting the shirts through some thorough tests – both cycle to work daily, run their own charity football team, compete in triathlons and swim and surf – it’s a miracle they get any work done!

“The great thing about organic cotton and bamboo is that it’s lightweight and flexible, so it’s ideal for any sport where movement is key. Being naturally soft also means it doesn’t stick to the skin or rub so our organic clothing helps keep the wearer drier, cooler and more comfortable.” Co-founder Rob Drake-Knight.
