Young Eco-fashion Brand Launches 2010 collection

A young eco-fashion brand from the Isle of Wight has launched their new collection packed with cool designs.

As any skater will tell you, skate-wear has its own style and is a market ruled by the big brands meaning people looking for ethical clothing don’t get much of a choice. Rapanui aims to tip the balance with a range that wouldn’t look out of place in any high street skate shop, designs like the “earth bomb” and “bolt” t-shirts are a welcome addition to any skater’s rather messy wardrobe.

The business was founded by Brothers Rob and Martin Drake-Knight in early 2008 and has quickly grown into an award winning brand, Earning recognition at Enterprise UK’s Young Brits awards and the Sustainable Business Awards for their commitment to using Organic, Natural fabrics, Wind powered factories and Fairwear Foundation ethical labour.

Rapanui has developed interactive maps of their supply chain, where customers can view pictures, facts and figures and explore the entire products life cycle. Rather than cherry-picking their most ethical garments, Rapanui have taken what some might see as a risky approach by opening up the doors on every single product in their range.

Rapanui argue that sustainability is not about design and technology in its traditional sense – making new greener fabrics and logos to go with them - Instead they suggest going green is about communication design – a greater dialogue between consumers and companies.

“It’s not that people don’t care, it’s just that they don’t know. If we can inform and educate people as to where clothing comes from and how it is made they can make Informed Decisions as shoppers.”

Check out their site and join the conversation at www.rapanuiclothing.com There is a wealth of information on their Eco-Fashion page, they are completely open and honest about the entire process of their clothes, how they are made and what impact each piece has on the environment, yet at the same time provide garments that perhaps you wouldn’t expect from a company whose main concern is about reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

Find out more about men’s organic clothing and also women’s organic clothing.

Check them out and let them know what you think.
