Eco-Fashion with a Passion for Running
A leading eco-fashion brand has released its new 2010 summer collection to the sports market; recognising the benefits of natural fabrics in sport. These natural fabrics have some impressive qualities.

“The great thing about using eco-fabrics in sportswear is that often they are softer, more breathable, and stretchier than their synthetic counterparts. Our bamboo tops are hypoallergenic and antibacterial too, so they’re kind to skin.” Said Martin Drake-Knight, designer. “It’s these properties inside the fabric that makes our clothing so perfect for any kind of sport where you build up a sweat.”
The most important thing for runners is bamboo fabric stops odour-producing bacteria from growing allowing it to remain fresher smelling for longer. It is also highly absorbent and wicks water away from the body 3 to 4 times faster than cotton.
Bamboo is Thermo-regulating, the fibres expand when hot to keep you cool, and contract when cold to keep you warm. Being naturally soft also means it doesn’t stick to the skin or rub, which will be a big relief for anyone familiar with running’s answer to the tennis elbow, “Joggers nipple”.
Rapanui makes clothing from organic natural fabrics in a fair wear foundation audited, wind powered factory. Shoppers can find out where clothes come from are how they are made using interactive maps on the Rapanui website.
There is a wealth of information for any interested customer to read through on Rapanui’s website, including a Wikipedia style resource with all the essential knowledge on their Eco-Fashion page, they are completely open and honest about the entire process of their clothes, how they are made and what impact each piece has on the environment, yet at the same time provide garments that perhaps you wouldn’t expect from a company whose main concern is about reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
