Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. The FSC mark guarantees that the product came from a forestry source that has been managed sustainably.
Established in 1993 as a response to concerns over global deforestation, FSC is a pioneer forum where the global consensus on responsible forest management convenes. Through a democratic process the FSC works towards solutions to pressures facing the world’s forests and forest-dependent communities.

Within this forum, FSC stakeholders assemble to define environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable forest management strategies and identify the tools and resources that will effect positive, lasting change.
FSC is a multi-stakeholder organization: its members and interested parties vary - from designers, manufacturers, suppliers and governmental bodies, FSC applies the directive of its membership to develop forest management and chain of custody standards. FSC also provides accreditation services to a businesses, organizations and communities internationally. Their accreditation schemes allow businesses to carry their FSC mark. Like our eco-labelling initiative, this makes it easier for consumers to shop quickly, with a conscience.
FSC certification provides a credible link between responsible production and consumption of forest products, something at Rapanui we call traceability. This enables consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment as well as creating business value in sustainable forestry.
