The Drop: Indoor Skatepark

A new skatepark is being built on the Isle of Wight called the Drop with a rad installation: The Rapanui Miniramp.
We've been working with the guys who've been building the park on some ideas, and yesterday we finally got over to their unit in Newport on the Island to have a look around. Fair to say it was a bit of a jaw-dropper.
They've taken a disused industrial warehouse and built a street section designed with John Cattle of Wight Trash fame, possibly the Isle of Wight's most recognised skateboarding export, plus a huge roll-in ramp that points directly at a foam pit. They've even got pool-style edging on some of the ramps. It's quality stuff - but the bit we love best? It has to be the Rapanui miniramp section.
Some of you might know we have a miniramp squeezed in to our shop in Sandown. It's been great fun to skate, but due to the inconveniences of running a fashion brand, like having to do work and launch new collections etc, it's quite often covered in boxes and hasnt been used much recently. So when Glen and his crew offered us the chance to partner with the drop to create a special Rapanui miniramp area, we jumped at the chance for more skating options.
Yesterday we got to try it out. Unfortunately, we'd sort of forgotten how to skate since last summer and there was a lot of rusty / embarro moves going down. Still, it's safe to say this place is going to be a winner.
If you're into skating keep your eyes peeled for the first Rapanui skate jam and lock-in sessions in a couple of months time.
