We're delighted to say that Rapanui are involved in a World Speed Sailing Record attempt, making custom uniforms for the Vestas Sailrocket 2 Crew.

Our Organic tees are made in a factory powered by wind turbines. Pretty unusual for a fashion company, but we think it's the right thing to do. Those very turbines were designed and manufactured just up the road from us on the Isle of Wight, at Vestas. Our big neighbour makes some of the biggest turbines in the world, and are constantly looking for new ways to get more out of our great natural resource, the wind.

Vestas Sailrocket Two is a speed sailing boat based on a unique, stabilising concept. Vestas Sailrocket has continuously pushed the limits for speed sailing and currently holds the B class world record for speed sailing. Their next aim is to smash the current Outright World Speed Sailing Record of 64 mph.

It's also a vehicle for sustainability: The research and development for this boat will ultimately end up improving the next generation of sustainable energy sources.

The big thing that struck us during the launch was the shape of the Sailrocket. You'll see from the pictures and video that this is no ordinary looking boat! The crew told us that the sail and keel are positioned so that there is virtually no overturning moment and no net vertical lift. The result? More wind = more speed.

We're stoked to have been involved with the project and we’ll keep you up to date with their record attempt in the coming months.
